Dornoch Firth

The Dornoch Firth is an inlet of the North Sea on the east coast of Scotland. It extends 35 km from east to west into the land mass. The coast is only sparsely populated, with Tain and Dornoch represent the main cities. At the head of Dornoch Firth River Oykel opens a. 10-20 km to the south runs the Cromarty Firth. Administratively part of the Dornoch Firth to the Unitary Authority of Highland.

In 1809, nearly 100 people died in a ferry accident in the Dornoch Firth killed. In 1991, the ferry service by the Dornoch Firth Bridge has been replaced. About this runs with the A9, the most important trunk road in the Highlands.
