Dorome

Dorome is a local specialty of Kochi Prefecture in Japan. In Tosa dialect is Dorome refers to fried sardines of about 2-3 cm in length. These are eaten fresh with a dipping sauce of pureed garlic leaves, vinegar and miso. Often Dorome is served in bars and pubs together to alcoholic beverages.

The city Akaoka in the prefecture of Kochi celebrates a Dorome hard year. The main event is a drinking contest between men and women, which is an oversized fully Masu Sake ( 1.8 liters for men, half women ) to drink as quickly as possible. The record was in 2006 at 12.5 seconds and 10.8 seconds. There are also Dorome parties on the coast, a Dorome Dance of the children and a fishing boat parade.
