Dorothee Wilms

Dorothee Wilms ( born October 11, 1929 in Grevenbroich ) is a German politician ( CDU).

She was 1982-1987 Federal Minister of Education and Science from 1987 to 1991, the last Minister of Intra-German Relations.

Education and work

After graduation in 1950 Wilms began a study of economics, social policy and sociology in Cologne, which they in 1954 as a graduate economist and 1956 with the degree of Dr. rer. pol. with the work of the macro - or micro-economic processes in economics ended. From 1953 to 1973 she was employed as a research assistant for youth and vocational training at the Institute of German Economy in Cologne. From 1977 to 1982 she was here then head of the Centre for Research in educational and socio-political development.

Party

Since 1961 Dorothee Wilms is a member of the CDU. From 1974 to 1976 she was deputy chairwoman of the CDU. In 1986, she was elected to the State Executive Committee of the CDU North Rhine -Westphalia. She was also a volunteer until 2005 approximately 25 years as a member of the board of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, which she still belongs today.

Member of Parliament

From 1976 to 1994 Wilms was a member of the German Bundestag. Here she was 1980-1982 parliamentary secretary of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group.

Public offices

After the reunification in Bonn Wilms was appointed on 4 October 1982 as a Federal Minister for Education and Science in the Cabinet of Chancellor Helmut Kohl. After the general election in 1987 they took over from 12 March 1987, the Federal Ministry for Intra- German relations. After German reunification, this Ministry was dissolved, so they retired from the Federal Government on 18 January 1991. Since 1992 she has been Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the public foundation Chancellor Adenauer House in Bad Honnef - Rhöndorf ( volunteering ). Volunteering she was 2000-2004 president of the Association of Former Members of the German Bundestag and the European Parliament.
