Dorothy McGuire

Dorothy McGuire ( born June 14, 1916 in Omaha, Nebraska, † 13 September 2001 in Santa Monica ) was an American actress.

Life

McGuire began her acting career in the late 1930s in New York. Your first major appearance on Broadway they had in 1938, when she in the Thornton Wilder play was allowed to stand in Our Town ( Our Town ) for Martha Scott.

Her film career began in 1943 with the title role in the comedy Claudia directed by Edmund Goulding. For her performance in Elia Kazan film Gentleman's Agreement in 1948 she was nominated for an Oscar. Although she was able to convince some very notable films, especially in the post-war years, it was never one of the glamorous Hollywood stars in these years. In the 1970s, she starred in the successful television series rich and poor, the mother of the brothers Jordache (Peter Strauss and Nick Nolte ).

Disappointingly, her name was ( In Memoriam ) not mentioned in the television broadcast of the Oscar ceremony in 2002 at the obituaries.

Dorothy McGuire married 1943 photographer John Swope ( 1908-1979 ). They had a son and a daughter.
