Dorothy Spencer

Dorothy Spencer ( born February 3, 1909 in Covington, Kentucky; † 23 May 2002 Encinitas in San Diego, California ) was an American film editor.

Life and work

Her debut as a film editor, she gave in 1929 with the film Married in Hollywood. Among the film directors with whom she worked frequently include Mark Robson, Anatole Litvak, and especially Ernst Lubitsch. Their first production was to be or not in 1942. Too, with Edward Dmytryk they cooperated in several productions, as well as with director Henry Hathaway.

A total of four times in her career Spencer was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Editing, for the first time in 1940 for the Western Ringo, with whom she worked with Otho Lovering. In 1989 she received from the American Cinema Editors Career Achievement Award to.
