Dorsiventral

The term dorsiventrally describes the type of symmetry of life forms. These are then dorsiventrally if they (or parts thereof) have only a single axis of symmetry that divides it into two mirror- image halves. The top and bottom (or belly or back ), however, are built differently ( it is also indicated by the derivation of the Latin words " dorsum " = back " venter " = belly down ).

From dorsiventrality one speaks primarily in animals. In plants (especially flowers ), however, zygomorph the otherwise equally significant term or common (with leaves) bifacial.
