Dörte Gatermann

Dorte Gatermann ( born March 25, 1956 in Hamburg ) is a German architect and university lecturer.

Life and works

After studying architecture at the Technical University of Braunschweig and the RWTH Aachen Gatermann worked for five years as a project manager at Gottfried Böhm. Together with her future husband Elmar Schossig she founded in 1984, the common architecture office Gatermann Schossig in Cologne, which leads it today together with her ​​long-time project managers. Elmar Schossig died in December 2009 aged 59 after a long illness. The couple has two adult children.

2002-2007 Gatermann was Associate Professor of Design and Building Administration at the Technical University of Darmstadt. Dorte Gatermann acts as an adjudicator for numerous architectural competitions.

The Rimowa suitcase factory was one of the first projects in 1987 Gatermann received an award for German Architecture Prize. Since then, she has been honored with approximately 100 Architecture and competitive prices. The realization of the reconstruction of the historic Bayenturms by Dorte Gatermann to FrauenMediaTurm was one of the first projects for the restructuring of Cologne Rheinauhafen. This was the archive and documentation center on current and historical women's issues, a collaboration with Alice Schwarzer. After further projects in Cologne Rheinauhafen as the Kontor19, the Port Authority as the seat of the port and freight Cologne HGK, and realized in 2011 Baufeld10. The height of the tower KölnTriangle was from the beginning a political issue. After settlement of the political infighting, the skyscraper could be built at a height of 103.2 meters. During the construction phase was the KölnTriangle trigger for UNESCO to set the Cologne Cathedral temporarily on the Red List as endangered world heritage. As part of this observed nationwide discussion, the high-rise concept for Cologne -Deutz has been revised. The observation deck is in the meantime a crowd puller. From the hand of the architect originate also, inter alia, the Ministry of Education of the State of North Rhine Westphalia and the Roman Museum was completed in 2008 in the Archaeological Park Xanten. For the traveling exhibition " Europeans" photographer Bettina Flitner they designed the exhibition architecture. She lives and works in Cologne.
