Dory Previn

Dory Previn, née Dorothy Veronica Langan ( born October 22, 1925 in Rahway, New Jersey, † February 14, 2012 in Weymouth, Massachusetts) was an American writer and singer- songwriter.

Life

Dory Previn grew up as the eldest daughter of a family of Irish descent living in difficult circumstances. The temporary paranoid father locked his wife and children for months one in the house. After high school she attended for a year, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, but she had to leave for lack of money. She slapped her with odd jobs, stepped in Chorus Lines as a singer and dancer, and began writing his own songs. Her first marriage ended in divorce soon.

A chance encounter with Arthur Freed helped her to gain employment as a songwriter at Metro -Goldwyn- Mayer. There she met Andre Previn and played with him in 1958 and guitarist Kenny Burrell their first album with original songs a. In 1959 she married Previn and wrote with him a number of songs for movies and for other artists. In 1970 her husband for the young Mia Farrow. She expressed her grief about it from, especially in the song Beware of Young Girls. Over the next six years, she released six studio albums, a live album and a TV movie, Third Girl From The Left. 1976 appeared the first of her two autobiographies, 1980, the second.

In 1983 she married the Canadian painter and actor Joby Baker ( born 1934 ). In 1988, she appeared in Dublin and London for the last time. In 1997, she wrote, again with Andre Previn, a piece for soprano and orchestra entitled The Magic Number.

After several strokes she died at age 87 on their farm.
