Dorycnium

Long Haired Back clover ( Dorycnium hirsutum )

Back clover ( Dorycnium ) is a plant genus in the subfamily of the Fabaceae ( Faboideae ). The ten species occur to the Canary Islands from the Mediterranean.

Description

Dorycnium species are deciduous or evergreen herbaceous plants, subshrubs, or small shrubs with thin, grooved, finely hairy, green branches. The alternate arranged leaves are sessile. The unpaired pinnate leaf blades consist of five or seven leaflets ganzrandigen or three terminal and two similar stipules at the base arranged leaflets. The actual Stipules are completely atrophied.

The flowers are arranged in axillary, capitula inflorescences at the ends of the stem axis. The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic and fünfzählig double perianth. The five sepals are fused bell-shaped and the chalice ends regularly pentadentate or slightly two-lipped. The five white to pale pink petals form a typical Schmetterlingsblütler corolla with a mostly black purple tatting. The wings have a bulge ( " cheek", which led to the German common name of the genus ). Nine of the ten stamens are fused and one free. The single carpel is upper constant. The legumes are round to oval with a length of 3 to 12 mm and contain one to many seeds.

Dissemination

The distribution of the genus Dorycnium includes the Mediterranean, northwest Africa and the Canary Islands.

System

The genus belongs to the tribe Dorycnium Loteae in the subfamily Fabaceae ( Faboideae ) within the legume family ( Fabaceae ). It was in 1754 ..., set up by Philip Miller in The Gardeners Dictionary ... Abridged 4th Edition. The selected Miller genus name Dorycnium was before the introduction of the binary nomenclature by Carolus Linnaeus used for two completely different plant taxa, namely the Ölbaumblättrige bindweed (Convolvulus oleifolius ) and for not more precisely determinable poisonous plants may be from the kind of nightshade (Solanum ).

At times were about ten species by some authors in the genre of birdsfoot trefoil ( Lotus ) sect in Lotus. Dorycnium (Mill.) D.D.Sokoloff and Lotus sect. Bonjeanea ( Reichenb. ) D.D.Sokoloff classified.
