Dosa
Dosa, dosai or Thosai ( tamil. ) is a dish of South Indian cuisine. For Dosa is a kind of thin, crispy pancake cooked on a round cast iron plate. It consists of a fermented batter of rice and Urdbohnenmehl. Dosa is mostly eaten for breakfast or dinner or as a snack. Dosa is served usually with sambar ( a sauce of lentils and tamarind base ) and chutney, typically made from coconut meat, sometimes tomato, mint or other ingredients.
In addition to the simple form, there are numerous Dosa variations. Among the best known include Masala Dosa, served with a spicy potato filling, the ultra thin and crispy Rava Dosa Paper Dosa and which is made from semolina. A similar dish is Uttapam, which is made from the same dough, but thicker than flat bread and topped with tomatoes, onions or other ingredients.
