DOS/V

DOS / V is a variant of the operating system DOS for the Japanese market, which first appeared in 1990.

The term stems from the fact that the operating system utilizes the graphic mode of the VGA standards. With the so- possible resolution of 640 × 480 pixels Japanese characters can be displayed. The necessary input methods and fonts are implemented in software, so DOS / V can also be performed on western computers. Previously in Japan had their own computer, especially the PC-98 series of the manufacturer NEC, in use, which were incompatible with western programs.
