Double-barrelled name

As an alliance name a guided hyphenated double-barreled name is referred to by married persons in Switzerland. It consists of the official family name as well as from the former surname, the spouse has performed before the marriage or as an unmarried person. For example, the politician Eveline Widmer- Schlumpf has acquired by marriage family name Widmer combined with her ​​birth name Smurf for alliance name Widmer -Schlumpf.

According to the Federal Court case law the alliance name no official name. But it must nevertheless be carried out by one or both spouses in customary law as the name of the second order in everyday legal transactions. The alliance name can be noted in the passport. This is now expressly recognized in article 14, paragraph 1, second sentence of the disclosure regulation.
