Double Happiness (calligraphy)

Double Happiness ( Chinese囍, Pinyin or Chinese xǐ双喜, Pinyin shuāngxǐ ) in China symbolizes happiness in marriage and consists of two interwoven characters for the word happiness, joy (喜Chinese, Pinyin xǐ ).

It is a symbol of marriage and is hung (in red ) as a paper cut on the doors of houses where lives a freshly baked bride and groom or a wedding takes place.

In the Forbidden City imperial weddings were held in the so-called east chamber of the heat of the palace of earthly tranquility, whose walls were painted red.
