Double variation

Double (French: Double, also diminution, division called ) is a name for the repetition of a suite equipped with ornaments set. It is a variation form in the suite of the 17th and 18th centuries.

The notes will be doubled by refraction, that is, from eighths to sixteenths, etc. Later, it came to freer variations. When Double only the basic structure of the melody, harmony and rhythm is maintained.
