Doug Polen

Doug Polen ( born September 2, 1960 in Detroit ( Michigan)) is a former American professional motorcycle racer.

In the years 1991 and 1992 he won the Superbike World Championship. He also Japanese Superbike Championship and the Endurance World Championship was successful in the AMA Superbike Championship, active.

Career

Poland began his career in the American Superbike Championship, the AMA Superbike Championship in the early 1980s as a private driver. Then he left racing for some time and returned back to the 1986 AMA Superbike Championship. In the 1988 season, he raced on a Yoshimura Suzuki factory bike. In the 1989 season he played the Japanese motorcycle championship on Suzuki and was able to win in the classes F1 and TT- TT- F3.

In 1990, Doug Poland joined Ducati and won on Ducati 888 in Team Fast By Ferracci Ducati Corse USA of U.S. Ducati tuner Eraldo Ferracci 1991 Superbike World Championship. Poland dominated the season, winning 17 of 26 races and was discharged at the end of the season 150 points ahead of second place, the Ducati factory riders Raymond Roche.

1992 Doug Polen formed together with Roche and Giancarlo Falappa the factory Ducati team Ducati Team Police. The Americans continued in the title fight again against Raymond Roche by and managed to defend his world title. He also finished second in the AMA Superbike Championship this year. The following year, Poland left the Superbike World Championship to compete exclusively in the AMA Superbike Championship and won this championship.

For the 1994 season, he returned to the World Superbike Championship and went for the Honda UK team, for which he won three third places. At the beginning of next year Doug Polen left dam team and returned to the U.S. Superbike Championship.

In 1997, Poland won on Suzuki along with the Australian Peter Goddard, the Endurance World Championship and, inter alia, that these measures is the 24 -hour motorcycle race at Le Mans. The following year he defended on Honda along with the Frenchman Christian Lavieille his title.
