Douglas 2229

The Douglas in 2229 the project was to design a supersonic airliner from the U.S. manufacturer Douglas. The aim of the designated successor of the Douglas DC-8 was the carriage of passengers with over 3200 km / h

The design goes back to 1959 and shows a cylindrical -pressurized fuselage with delta wings, the wing tips could be lowered and canards. The Flügelstrake handed over almost the entire body length. The elevator was integrated into the reaching far back wings, the rudder had a fin on and was distinctly arrow-shaped. The bow section, which was shown as a mock up to exhibitions, had a movable windshield, which was extended at high speeds from the bow and the front cockpit window hidden. The air intake to the engines was movable in order to make the engines at all airspeeds and altitudes sufficient combustion air is available to a large extent. For one embodiment, it did not.
