Douglas County (Georgia)

The Douglas County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. Administrative office ( County Seat) is Douglasville.

Geography

The County is located in northwest Georgia, is located in the west about 40 miles from the eastern border of Alabama and has an area of 519 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Cobb County, Fulton County, Carroll County and Paulding County.

History

Douglas County was formed on October 17, 1870 from parts of Carroll County and a small portion of Cherokee County. It was named, as well as Douglasville, according to Stephen A. Douglas, a congress member and rival of Abraham Lincoln during the presidential campaign.
