Douglas County (Minnesota)

The Douglas County is a county located in the Midwest of the U.S. State of Minnesota. In 2010, the County had 36 009 inhabitants and a population density of 21.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Alexandria, which was after Alexander Kinkaid, an early settler in the area, named.

Geography

The County lies to the west of the geographical center of Minnesota. It has an area of 1865 square kilometers, of which 222 square kilometers are water surface. At the Douglas County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Douglas County was formed on March 2, 1858 from portions of Cass County and the defunct Pembina County. It was named after Stephen Arnold Douglas (1813-1861), an American politician and presidential candidate.
