Douglas County (Nevada)

Douglas County is a county located in the northwest of the state of Nevada in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) Minden is the only major airport in the county, the Minden- Tahoe Airport.

History

The first trading post in the area of present-day counties have already been built in the 1850s. The County was one of the first nine counties that were founded in 1861 by the administration of former Nevada Territory. It was named the Democratic presidential candidates for the presidential elections in 1860, Stephen Douglas, the future President Abraham Lincoln delivered himself in this campaign severe verbal battles.

Geography

The Douglas County located in the west of Nevada extends from Carson Valley to the Sierra Nevada. To the west it borders the State of California or the El Dorado County, with which it Lake Tahoe is divided in half.

The racial the population was composed of 91.88 % White, 0.31 % African American, 1.68 % Native American, 1.25 % Asian, 0.15 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 2.54 % from other races groups; 2.19% were descended from two or more races. 7.41 % percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 16,401 households out of which 30.70 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.50 % were married couples living together, 8.00 % had a female householder with no husband. 27.50% were non-families. 20.70 % of all households and 6.60 % had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.88.

Based on the county the population was spread out with 24.00 % under the age of 18, 5.50 % from 18 to 24, 26.40 % from 25 to 44 years, 28.90 % between 45 and 64 years and 15.20% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 102.10 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.70 males.

The median income for a household was $ 51,849, and the median income for a family was $ 57,092. Males have a median income of $ 40,436, women $ 28,762. The per capita income was $ 27,288. 7.30 % of the population and 5.80% of families are below the poverty line. 9.70 % of those under age 18 and 5.30% were 65 years or older.
