Douglas is a city in the municipality Siyancuma, Pixley Ka Seme District, Northern Cape Province in South Africa. Is named the city after Sir Percy Douglas. In 2011 it had 20 083 inhabitants.

History

Reverend Isaac Hughes founded in 1848 on the farm Backhouse a mission station. The control of the area had the Griqua. Their leader Nicholas Waterboer issued in 1867 a group of European settlers permission to found the settlement at the ford. The city status was given the settlement in 1905.

On the Driekops island in the river Riet there are hundreds of petroglyphs that were probably made by San. At high water level these paintings are covered by water.
