Intelligent design controversy

Dover gained national prominence through a process that took place between 2004 and 2005: Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District.

After the administrative management of the Dover Area School District was elected, was adopted for the biology curriculum the following:

  • The Pennsylvania Academic Standards require that students be taught about Darwin's theory of evolution and write a standardized test about it.
  • Because Darwin's theory is just a theory, should continue to be researched for evidence to prove it. However, the majority of the scientific community accepts it. Gaps in evolutionary theory are provided.
  • Intelligent Design is an explanation for the origin of life that differs from Darwin's view. The reference book Of Pandas and People is available for students who have interest in what intelligent design includes.
  • With respect to any theory, students are encouraged to keep an open mind. The school leaves the discussion of the origins of life to individual students and their families.

Some parents of students, including Tammy Kitzmiller (after the later of the process is named), filed a lawsuit against the school administration and thus justified the process. Judge John E. Jones III forbade the Dover Area School District intelligent design to teach in Science Teaching. Intelligent design is religion and the U.S. Constitution call for the separation of church and state.

In November, all members of the school administration who supported intelligent design were deselected.
