Doxazosin is a drug from the group of alpha-blocker that is used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and arterial hypertension.
Clinical information
Doxazosin selectively blocks α1 - receptors thus making it comes to peripheral vasodilation and a decrease in blood pressure.
Further, it causes a lowering of serum cholesterol.
Pharmacological properties
Side effect
Among other things, it can come at the beginning of treatment with doxazosin to a sharp drop in blood pressure with dizziness and headache ( " first-dose effect"). Orthostatic hypotension is characteristic of an alpha-blocker.

Doxazosin has been patented as α1 - sympatholytic 1979/1980 by Pfizer and is available as a generic in the trade. Doxazosin from which the hydrochloride and mesylate is used is structurally related to prazosin.
