Dr. Demento

Dr. Demento ( born April 2, 1941 in Minneapolis; actually Barret Eugene Hansen) is an American radio host, who has specialized in parodies and novelty songs. He is considered the discoverer of the parodist Weird Al Yankovic. The fictional character Dr. Demento he developed in 1970 at a radio station in Los Angeles. His weekly show was syndicated from 1974 in the USA and is still aired in 2008. He also worked as an actor and screenwriter.

Biography

By his own account he began at age 12 his large record collection, sold as a thrift store thousands of old records for the lowest prices. He completed his studies at UCLA in Folklore and Ethnomusicology with a master's degree from.

He then worked as a roadie for the band Spirit as well as Canned Heat, and later as an A & R manager for Specialty Records and Warner Bros. Records, the same time he hosted his weekly broadcast. Another addition to Weird Al Yankovic Hansen sponsored musician Bobby Pickett. Hansen wrote and hosted the late 1980s for two MTV specials, in which he presented the highlights of his radio broadcasts. As an actor he was, inter alia, in UHF - to watch channels with limited hope, are much more frequent his cameo appearances, for example, in the Weird Al Show or The Simpsons.
