Dr. Feelgood

Dr Feelgood is an English rock band from Canvey Iceland near Southend, Essex.

It was in 1971 by singer and guitarist Wilko Johnson Brilleaux Lee (born John Wilkinson ) and soon after founded by bassist John B. Sparks and drummer "The Big Figure": supplemented (born John Martin).

The name of the band was at the suggestion of the Sparks song borrowed from Dr Feelgood in the band Johnny Kidd & The Pirates.

Dr Feelgood is one of the few bands who equally had success in the British blues boom and in the punk era. The active mainly in the 1970s group was known for songs such as Back in the Night and Roxette.

Career

Like many other pub rock bands, for example, also originating from Southend Eddie & the Hot Rods, Dr Feelgood were known primarily by their live performances. Addition, however, the albums like Down by the Jetty and Malpractice were very popular. The breakthrough of the band released 1976 live album Stupidity, which debuted at number one in the UK charts.

After the next album, Sneakin ' Suspicion, Wilko Johnson left the group due to internal differences and was Gypie Mayo (born John Cawthra ) replaced. With Mayo, the band was not as successful as in previous times with Johnson, but she could reach 1979 still has a place in the top ten of the charts with Milk and Alcohol.

After Mayo also had 1980 left the band, Dr Feelgood did not give up, but took with changing new guitarist - "Johnny Guitar", Gordon Russell and Steve Malwyn - more plates and went on tour. 1982 also left Sparks and "The Big Figure " the group and were replaced by Phil Mitchell ( bass), and Kevin Morris (drums). On April 7, 1994, the last remaining founding member, singer Lee Brilleaux died of cancer. With Pete Gage (vocals) and Robert Kane, two new band members were resumed. Since the late 1990s, Dr Feelgood are ( without original members) always on tour. On 23 October 2013, the former guitarist Gypie Mayo died after a long illness at the age of 62 years.

In addition to the band is still a song and an album by Mötley Crüe and Aretha Franklin bear the name Dr. Feelgood.
