Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is an American horror film released in 1920. It represents a further implementation of Robert Louis Stevenson's novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is, however, not published in the same year with the and more widely known version with John Barrymore to be confused in the lead role.

Action

The film begins with the first transformation in the eyes of Jekyll's butler who cries out in horror that his master now " the Apostle from Hell! " ( " the apostle of hell !") is. Equipped with fangs and disheveled hair Hyde moves through the city and committing all sorts of atrocities. The police can ask him eventually; the fiend is heard, taken to jail and finally strapped to the electric chair. The next moment the slumbering in a chair Jekyll wakes up from a nightmare, gets easier from: ( "I believe in God I have a soul ...")! " I believe in God I have a soul ... " and decides under the impression of the dream, not to carry out his intended chemistry experiment.

Background

Film producer Louis Meyer was due to copyright infringement of the rotated in the same year, full-length Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1920 ) by John S. Robertson, the action in New York to settle and vary the main story at crucial points. The final product became so catastrophic that director J. Charles Haydon had his name removed from production.
