Drachhausen

Drachhausen, Lower Hochoza, is a municipality in the district of Spree- Neisse in the South of Brandenburg and is part of the Office Peitz.

History

Drachhausen was first mentioned in writing in 1504 under the name " Hoen Drußow ". The followed more than 1506 names " Drochoßen " 1641 " Drachausen " 1652 " Drachhaußen " 1765 " Trachhausen " and then the current name Drachhausen. The Sorbian name is derived from Ochoz and means " to use a particular settlement for clearing forest ." The town was settled from the outset by Sorbs, whose language and culture was widely spread over the centuries and is maintained until today. From the 16th century until 1874 was under Drachhausen the offices Cottbus or Peitz. 1759, during the Seven Years' War, burned the place from up on the Vorwerk and some barns. Drachhausen was from 1973-1992 in the " coal reserve" and should partially make way for a lignite mine.

Culture and sights

The emblem of Drachhausen, a dragon made ​​of concrete, was erected in 1998 on the occasion of the Wendish hard days on the village green. Built in 1895 Protestant church of St. Laurence is one of the largest parish churches in the region. Every two years Drachhausen next Crostwitz Bautzen and venue of the International Folklore Festival Lausitz / Lužica.
