Drachselsried goes back to one worn by the Counts of Bogen colonization wave and is first mentioned in 1114. In the 14th century, it established a noble residence. By 1550, it was first described as a village and Hofmark.
Drachselsried belonged to Rentamt Straubing and the district court Viechtach of the Electorate of Bavaria. 1770, the family acquired Poschingerstraße the precious seat. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.
Even when Uraufnahme of 1840 Drachselsried was clearly separated into two parts, the village ( Drachselsried I) and castle owned ( Drachselsried II) with the Castle Brewery. This separation became blurred but then gradually, especially by the construction activity after the Second World War.
At the beginning of the 1970s there were plans to make Drachselsried the tourist center. Among the existing 1,400 beds should part of a major project, further 4,500 beds will be built, but a regional planning procedure prevented the implementation. Because of the small sewage capacity eventually only 500 new beds were approved, and the venue is essentially retained its traditional village.
