Since August 1, 2011, apprenticeships Technical Systems Designer and Technical product designer replace the old training. In Switzerland, is the job title of the Technical draftsman engineer or electrical consultant. The main task of technical draftsmen is to create standard-compliant Technical drawings.

Education in Austria

In Austria draftsmen complete a three and a half years of teaching in the form of dual training. Apprentices are thus formed at the vocational school and training companies. The focus of the training is the preparation of detail and standards detailed drawings and plans. The basis for concepts, ideas and working sketches, which were designed by architects, engineers or designers. You will learn to draw, especially with computer-aided drawing and design programs ( computer-aided design, CAD systems).

The training ends with the final apprenticeship examination. Related teaching professions such as Structural engineering draftsman or designer can be completed with a reduced teaching time. A passed final examination in Austria also allows access Berufsmatura and hence to further higher qualifications at colleges or universities.

Reorganization of education in Germany

With the new training regulations from 1 August 2011, the training professional technical draftsman by the technical system designer or technical product designers was replaced. Both professions are joined together by common training contents of one year.

The reorganization of the professions also causes a change in the existing Job Title Technical Illustrator ( technical designer ). There are two professions with new content and structural interfaces. In the profession of technical system planner ( the technical system planner ) the essential contents of the "old " are disciplines heating, air conditioning, plumbing, steel and metal technology from the education profession of Technical signer together with a new Department of Electrical systems. In the profession of " new " Technical Product Designer ( the Technical product designer ) the main contents of the fields of mechanical and plant engineering and wood technology from the education profession of Technical signatory to the " old job " of the Technical product designer are connected.

Development of the profession in recent history

Because of technological development in the last 30 years, the profession has changed dramatically. The drawing on the drawing board was almost completely replaced by computer-aided design (CAD). As a result, shifted the demands that are placed on technical draftsmen, from manual skills to theoretical knowledge. For a large and complex data sets are created and linked, whose structure should be overlooked by technical draftsmen using CAD usually. Secondly, in particular, the virtual modeling in 3D, which is already standard in some disciplines, without deep understanding of the structural framework is not feasible.
