Draga Mašin

Draga Masin, born Lunjevica, also known under the name Draga of Serbia, ( born September 23, 1861 in Gornji Milanovac, † June 11, 1903 in Belgrade ) was Queen of Serbia.

Life

Draga Lunjevica was maid of honor of Queen Natalija, the mother of the later King Alexander I. In her first marriage she had with the Civil Svetozar Masin (1851-1886) married, who died young.

The 1889 after abdication of his father King of Serbia proclaimed Alexander married Draga on August 5, 1900 in Belgrade, which he resentment and active his mother's resistance drew upon, who had assumed the regency until the age of eighteen and politically great influence on Serbia took. Finally, he banished his own mother abroad.

However, the people, the non- noble and scandalous Draga was hated deeply. The situation was exacerbated by the fact that due to the childless marriage Dragas her extremely unpopular in the officer corps brother was appointed heir to the dynasty Obrenović.

On June 11, 1903 came a group of officers, led by the brother of her first husband, in the Royal Palace in Belgrade. Alexander and Draga hiding in a closet, but could be detected. They were then killed and their bodies thrown out of the window of the palace. This was the end of the rule of Obrenović. This was the end of the rule of Obrenović.

Alexander and Draga were buried in St. Mark Church in Belgrade.
