Dragoljub Velimirović

Dragoljub Velimirović ( born May 12, 1942 in Valjevo ) is a Yugoslav, now Serbian chess master.

Dragoljub Velimirović received his first chess training from his mother Jovanka Velimirović, which was also the first Yugoslav state champion of women. He received the national championship after the Yugoslav Championship in 1962. After successes in Skopje in 1971 and 1973 Vrnjačka Banja him the grandmaster title was awarded by FIDE.

Velimirović 1975 won the championship of Yugoslavia, Novi Sad and 1997 in Nikšić. In 1970 he shared the victory with Milan Vukić.

Velimirović preferably sharp and complicated game, so a structure of Sosin variant with a long castling and piece sacrifice is named after him. This style calls for a lot of energy, its results are very uneven. His current Elo rating is 2415 (as of January 2008). His highest Elo rating of 1990 he had with 2563 from January to December 1999.
