Dragun

Dragun is a municipality in the district of North West in Mecklenburg -Vorpommern in Germany. The community is managed by the Office Gadebusch based in the same city.

The housing construction in recent years resulted in an increase in population by 75 %, which is typical of Mecklenburg communities near large cities ( Schwerin ).

Geography

The community Dragun is located east of the small town Gadebusch and about twelve kilometers north-west of the state capital Schwerin. The municipality falls east to the upper Stepenitz from the Cramoner lake. Just north of the village lies the Dragun Vietlübber lake.

To Dragun include the districts Dragun, Drieberg, Drieberg Village, New Dragun and Vietlübbe.

History

Dragun was first mentioned in documents as Dragun in 1230. The name probably derives from the Slavic Dragun locator from.

The name Vietlübbe, also first mentioned in 1230 as Vitelube, comes from the Old Slavic and means as much as the place Vitolub family or place of Vitolub, the profit lovers.

Attractions

The oldest village Church of Mecklenburg located in the district Vietlübbe. The village church Vietlübbe, which has since been restored at great expense, built in the 12th century in Romanesque style on the cross-shaped floor plan. It is mentioned in 1230 in Ratzeburg tithe register, which at that time the diocese of Ratzeburg belonging villages ordered by parishes lists. Was also renovated the former farmhouse in the hamlet of Drieberg yard. It is the ancestral home of the noble family of Drieberg.

Dragun is located on the connecting road from Schwerin to Gadebusch, slightly further north runs along parallel to the main road 104. In Gadebusch is the nearest train station, from Schwerin exist on regional connections.
