Drakpa Gyaltsen

Dragpa Gyeltshen (Tib. grags pa rgyal mtshan; * 1147 Sakya, † 1216 ) is one of the "Five Venerable Masters" who brought the Sakya tradition of Tibetan Buddhism to full bloom. These five masters include not only dragpa Gyeltshen Sachen Kunga Nyingpo, Sonam Tsemo, Sakya Pandita and Phagspa. Dragpa Gyeltshen was the son of Sachen Kunga Nyingpo and pupil of his father until his death in 1147. 1172 he was fifth Sakya Thridzin. He was a great meditation master and was due to his teaching skills significantly to the dissemination of the Sakya Tradition in Tibet. Dragpa Gyeltshen is famous for the teachings about the " freedom of the four attachments ," which he should have received in a vision according to the tradition of the Bodhisattva Manjushri. Also due to a vision he should have prophesied that his nephew Sakya Pandita would one day teach in Mongolia.
