Dramelay

Dramelay is a commune with 35 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Jura department in the Franche -Comté; it belongs to the district of Lons -le- Saunier and Canton Arinthod.

History

Dramelay was a Seigneurie in the Middle Ages. Lords of Dramelay were:

  • Amedé, testified in 1044
  • Humphrey, whose grandson, testified in 1090
  • Bernard de Tromelai, Grand Master of the Knights Templar 1151-1153
  • Hugues I de Dramelay, constable of the county of Burgundy 1173
  • Hugues II de Dramelay, whose son, Lord of Dramelay 1189-1217

1240 Castle Dramelay was captured and subsequently owned by the Count of Chalon, she passed in 1248 to his brother Rudolf of Courtenay. 1260 Hugo was of Chalon in the possession of the castle, later Jean III. de Chalon Count of Auxerre († 1379 ). The castle passed to a younger line, the gentlemen of Châtel- Belin and finally to the Chalon- Arlay, Prince of Orange.

A branch line had (as a result of the Fourth Crusade ) a dozen castles in the Peloponnese and 34 castles in the Franche -Comté. At this line belongs Amadeus de Tramelay, Archbishop of Besançon 1197-1220.

The Dramelay castle was destroyed in the fighting after the death of Charles the Bold († 1477 ).
