Drapacz Chmur

The Drapacz Chmur (Polish for The skyscraper ) was built in 1934 to a design by Stefan Bryła and Mieczyslaw Kozlowski in five years of construction. He stands at ul Żwirki i Wigura 15 in Katowice.

The " Skyscraper " was one of many modern public buildings that were built in the interwar period in the southern metropolitan area, to underpin the importance of Katowice, the capital of the Autonomous Silesian Voivodeship. At that time it housed in its lower floors, the tax authorities of the Autonomous Silesian Voivodeship, while the upper floors were occupied by tax officials. The apartments were very luxurious and have been inhabited since the Second World War by writers such as Kalman Szegal and Bolesław Lubosz or filmmakers such as Gustav Holoubek and Kazimierz Kutz.
