Dreaming Apes (German: , dreaming monkeys ') is the third studio album by the German synthpop duo Wolfsheim.

Emergence and Artwork

The album consists of 14 newly composed Wolfsheim songs. All songs on the album were written by the two Wolfsheim members Peter Heppner and Markus Reinhardt. Were produced all the tracks by Jose Alvarez- Brill, Peter Heppner and Markus Reinhardt. The album was released under the label Strange Ways Records. The album contains a mix of electronic music, pop and synth. The cover of the album is kept dark. You can see a face of a monkey. All image recordings of the cover are from Alexander Demtschuk. The production of the CD case was taken over by the company Graphical works Ottensen. Inside the CD a 24-page booklet is also included. In this booklet, all lyrics are included. The recordings of the entire album took place hamburger recording studio audio thorium in the Belgian recording studio The Factory and in the recording studio. The recording of the entire album took about three months.

Publication and Promotion

The first release of the album took place in Germany on 16 February 1996. Initially the album was only available as a CD, since the beginning of downloadable music, the album is also acquirable in jedlichen music download portals.

In addition to the regular edition, there is a Limited First Edition of the album. The first copies of the album were so designated, these contained as opposed to the normal album version nor the maxi-single including Closer Still.

In the song A New Star System Has Been Explored Wolfsheim were accompanied vocally by Heike fog. The song Old Man's Valley is a collaboration with Roger Sanchez, who played the harmonica in this song. The Traces of China songs, India Theme, A Rambling Shadow and Old Piano Theme are only short instrumental pieces between the "real" song plays.

Closer Still

In the song Now I Fall ( Factory Remix) Wolfsheim, were accompanied by André Sträszer on an additional keyboard, next to Markus Reinhardt.

Singles

Even before the album's release, four months previously released the single Closer Still on 20 November 1995. After the album release another single release took place. On 19 April 1996, the single A New Star System Has Been Explored was released in collaboration with Heike fog. Overall, only these two singles were released.

Charts and chart positions

Dreaming Apes reached in Germany in the first week number 91 of the album charts. The album could hold a total of three weeks in the charts. In Austria and Switzerland, a chart entry to date was denied.

In Germany this is after 55578 already the second chart success in the album charts for Wolfsheim. It is the first studio album that could be placed in the charts.
