The three-position Zberg (also Dreistelzkopf, often abbreviated to Dreistelz ) is a 660.4 m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Bavarian Rhön.

The mountain is not one of the highest peaks Rhön, but thanks to its somewhat isolated location on the southwestern edge of the mountains a striking mountain shape that clearly rises above its surroundings.

Geographical location

The highest Erherbung the Brückenauer Kuppenrhön the three-position Zberg rises in the transition region to the south-west subsequent Spessart within the Rhön biosphere reserve and the Bavarian Rhön Nature Park. It is located in the district of Bad Kissingen approximately four kilometers south- southwest of the town of Bad Brückenau, directly north-northwest of Modlos or immediately west-southwest of Dreistelz, two parts of the municipality of Oberleichtersbach.

Observation tower

In the western part of the accessible forest trails summit region of three-position Zbergs is a viewing tower, which was built as an architecturally interesting and very airy, yet very stable steel construction. The tower consists of five about 3 feet high blocks with square cross -section of 4 meters on a side. On top of the tower carries a pulpit with 4.5 meters in diameter. In 2002, the tower was completely renovated. For this purpose, it was dismantled and transported the items to a steel building workshop, where they were cleaned and galvanized. Then the tower was reassembled.

The tower offers a fast allround view: On a clear day, the view extends west to the Great Feldberg in Taunus. In the southwest you look for Spessart. To the south the view extends to the heights of the Steigerwald. To the east the views of Cross Mountain and the Black Mountains (both to the Rhön counting ) through trees blocked, whereas at the northeast has the look for Dammersfeldkuppe and the view down Brückenau. In the north, the view extends to the crumpled, in the northwest, you can clearly see the bird mountain behind the ridge.

Saga

According to legend, the Dreistelz got its name from "the three proud ", three haughty young women whose castle was cursed by a rejected nightly pilgrimage and sank into the depths of the mountain.
