DRG Kleinlokomotive Class I

Small locomotives of the performance group I were as small locomotives, low mass and low drive power developed ( up to 40 HP ) for easy maneuvering. They were put into service after testing some experimental locomotives starting in 1930 at the Deutsche Reichsbahn.

As an energy source, the locomotives possessed diesel or benzene engines.

History

After the German Reichsbahn had 1930 first procured some experimental locomotives, they divided the other small locomotive procurement in 1931 in two ability groups. The locomotives of the performance group I with a motor power up to 40 hp (29 kW) were intended for shunting on small stations under simple conditions.

Because of the new labeling scheme two of the Versuchsloks of 1930 were filed in the performance group I. It was supplied by the Prince Stolberg Hut Ilsenburg V 6016 and V 6017 ( 1931 Ko Ko 0001 and 0002). This is not proven due to many deficiencies and were retired in 1932 again. While the DRG as early as 1931 for the locomotives of the performance group II pretended some dimensions, they ordered in the performance of Group I from 1931 to 1934 the types of producers to keep the purchase price low. These locomotives were delivered by Jung, Orenstein & Koppel, Windhoff and Gmeinder. They could not leave the stations, because they were too easy to trigger treadles reliable.

The unit Kleinlokomotiven

Only when it was shown that the use of the weak performance of the locomotives Group I was economically, the working group developed a small locomotives motor unit small locomotive for the DRG. This was very similar to the last deliveries of Gmeinder. The entire locomotive was unified than the diesel engine. The operator state of the locomotives was open on the side, all controls were placed on both sides of the locomotive. The small locomotives possessed buffer and a very simple shunting, which could be coupled automatically and could be solved by a foot lever. The power transmission was from the gearbox with simple roller chains on both axles.

The locomotives had only a Fußhebelbremse and no air brake system.

The first type of unit small locomotive 1935 was further developed for reinforced unit type 1935. This was a significantly reinforced frame, there were more powerful engines installed. Due to the larger mass of these locomotives were allowed to leave the train stations. In enhancing the unit type were reinforced several modules additionally.

In order to use domestic fuels, many locomotives were converted and operated by LPG from 1942 to 1945. After the Second World War, the locomotives were soon rebuilt again back to diesel operation.

Specifications

After 1945

The German Federal Railroad retired until 1963 from the small locomotives of the company and the types of unit type 1934. The remaining small locomotives they agreed it permits the 1954 until 1962. The locomotives were given the stronger air-cooled 50 hp engine Deutz F4L514.

Due to this enhanced performance, the numbering scheme was changed - now locomotives were classified with a capacity up to 50 HP in the performance group I.

The small locomotives of the performance group I were still displaced by the small locomotives of the power groups II and III. In addition, the cargo traffic declined, so most locomotives were retired by the DB in the 60s and 70s. A total of 54 locomotives of the amplified unit types from 1935 and 1936 with serial numbers 185-281 series 311 were for January 1, 1968 nor in the new series designation redrawn.

At Deutsche Reichsbahn you only tried using a single engine type, otherwise there was only minor modifications. In the 70s, also most of the locomotives were retired. Part of the withdrawals from service of one officially declared as a tag, but actually a new locomotive of the performance group II was built in Raw Dessau.
