Geography

Geographical Location

Driedorf is 416-643 meters above sea level on a plateau high in the Westerwald. With the Höllberg the highest mountain of the Westerwald Hessen located in the municipality.

The westernmost Punkt50.657458.1099 of the Lahn- Dill district is located on the border with the municipality of Willingen.

Neighboring communities

Driedorf borders in the north on the community Breitscheidstraße, on the east by the city of Herborn, in the south on the community Greifenstein (all in the Lahn- Dill-Kreis ) and to the west by the municipalities Oberrod, deer, Homberg, Waigandshain, Nister - Möhrendorf and Willingen (all in the Westerwald district in Rhineland -Palatinate).

Community structure

The commune includes in addition to the eponymous Driedorf the districts Mademühlen, Roth, Waldaubach, Munchausen, Hohenroth Heisterberg, Heiligenborn and rope Mayrhofen.

History

Driedorf was first documented in 1124.

Incorporations

  • On 1 October 1971, the municipalities Heiligenborn, Heister mountain and Hohenroth were incorporated.
  • On 1 July 1972, he was added Munchausen.
  • On 1 January 1977 Mademühlen, Roth, rope Mayrhofen and Waldaubach were incorporated by the Act on Restructuring of Dill circle, the counties of Giessen and Wetzlar and Giessen.

Mayor

  • Friedhelm Kessler, earlier mayor of the borough of Driedorf, was the first mayor of the whole church, and held this office from 1977 until 1995.
  • Wolfgang Schuster followed from 1 January 1996 as mayor and was reelected in 2001 for another six years.
  • Wolfgang Kühn was elected on 11 February 2007 for the mayor.
  • On 19 September 2010, elected as the new mayor in Driedorf Dirk Hardt (SPD).

Attractions

In Driedorf there are three lakes, a large (reservoir Driedorf ) and a small reservoir in the course of Rehbaches and also artificially dammed Heister Weiher. The Krombachtalsperre located between the municipalities Driedorf and deer, the dam is located in the municipality of Driedorf.

After a fire in 1819 destroyed almost the entire town, Driedorf was rebuilt. Striking is the straight road management. In the construction phase of the new hall structure Protestant parish church was built in 1821-1827 after a design by architect Friedrich Ludwig country shrinkage.

In Driedorf there are two castle ruins. The Squire castle is a freely accessible ruins. Besides this, there are the ruins of the upper castle Driedorf.

Northwest of the town is the core Höllberg, also called Höllkopf, with 643 m the highest mountain in the Lahn- Dill-Kreis in Hesse and the Westerwald.

Education

In Driedorf exists with the Westerwald school a school type independent comprehensive school. This is since 1966 Mittelpunktschule for the entire community and individual districts of the municipality Greifenstein (Hessen). The Westerwald school has about 750 students, who are taught by 61 teachers.

Telecommunications

On the Höllberg is a 108 meter high telecommunications tower of Deutsche Telekom AG of reinforced concrete. From this tower and the program of Hit Radio FFH is radiated on the FM frequency 106.8 MHz with an ERP of 30 kW.

Energy

On the territory of the municipality there are currently 18 wind turbines, which are mainly concentrated on two sites southeast of Waldaubach and south of Mademühlen. Six property owners have appealed the noise of the nearby wind turbines before the Administrative Court Giessen, but end of March 2012 were inferior.
