Drinos far from Gjirokastra

The Drinos (Greek Δρίνος, Albanian: Drino and rarely Drin ) is a river in the South Eastern European region of Epirus His 84.6 km long run is directed from the southeast to the northwest. The source is located in northern Greece. After about 20 kilometers, the Drinos occurs over on Albanian territory. In Tepelenë it flows into the Vjosa. The upper course is called Fitóki and performs remote mountain country north-west of Ioannina along the Greek-Albanian border. The dewatered by Drinos strip extends hardly more than ten kilometers into Greek territory. A little south of the Greek-Albanian border crossing Kalpaki / Kakavija crosses the European Route 853 bridge over the Drinos.

Immediately at the border the valley widens. A several -kilometer-wide valley extends far to the Gjirokastra. This level is called Dropull. The valley is still surrounded by high mountains: in the west the chain Mali i Gjere, in the east the Lunxhëria Mountains. The villages are in each case at the edge of the valley, or even on the mountain slopes as Libohova and the historical center of Gjirokastra.

Gradually the valley narrows again. At the end of Dropull level of the mountain stream Perroi i Kardhiqit flows into the Drinos which leads in contrast to the great river, the water all year round. From here on the Drinos twists back through a narrow valley. South of Tepelenë it flows into the Vjosa, whose most important tributary he is. The Drinos drains an area of 1324 km ². The average discharge is 41.6 m³ / s
