Driss Debbagh

Driss Debbagh (Arabic إدريس الدباغ; born November 7, 1921 in Marrakech, Morocco; † in the 1980s ) was a Moroccan ambassador to Italy ( 1959-1961 ) and Knight of the Grand Cross of Merit of the Italian Republic. He also held from June to November 1963, the office of the Minister of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Merchant Navy. He was also vice - president and chairman of Banque Commerciale du Maroc.

Biography

Sharif Driss Debbagh was the son of Sharif Ibn Brahim Tayed Debbagh and his second wife, Zahra Bint Mohammed Soussi. He spoke Berber, Arabic, French, English and Italian. He lived since the 1940s in France, received in 1950 a Bachelor in Chemical Engineering from the École nationale supérieure des arts et industries textiles in Roubaix, France.

After his return to Morocco he was appointed in 1957 to the chairman of the Royal Association for aviation sports and in the same year also president of CJP ( Centre des Jeunes Patrons ).

Marriages and inheritance

Driss Debbagh was married in first marriage with Tami Benjelloun; The marriage remained childless. He had an adopted daughter, Nadia.

  • While he was ambassador to Rome, he was called by Pope John XXIII. awarded the title of Excellency.
