Drone metal

Drone Doom, Drone also ( from the English word for drone ), is the name of an extreme subgenre of doom metal. It emerged at the end of the 20th century.

Stylistic features

Typical for this very minimal style are heavily overdriven guitar sounds boomy and extremely slow or free rhythms. The guitars are usually tuned deeper, most of the sound produced thus moves in the lower to lowest frequency range. Vocals and drums are often lacking.

Characteristic of Drone Doom is the standing sound, so as long as possible decaying guitars, which are often exacerbated by feedback, echo or reverb effects. Perhaps most important for the sound, the amplifiers are used, so guitars are often connected to the bass amplifier to achieve the typical droning sound.

History

Drone Doom has its roots in the music of Doom bands like Saint Vitus and Candlemass. Pioneers were bands like Earth, on their album Earth 2 already find all until today formative for the genre characteristics in 1993, and the band Boris. In particular, to the U.S. record label Southern Lord Records still exists a Drone Doom scene. The now well-known representative of the genre is the American band Sunn O))); well-known bands from other countries Moss from England, Nadja ( Aidan Baker see ) from Canada, Monarch! from France and the Japanese band Corrupted. Other major record labels that publish Drone Doom recordings are Hydra Head and Neurot.
