Drug Abuse Resistance Education

Drug Abuse Resistance Education, DARE short, is a US-based drug prevention program. Since the beginning in 1983 it has become the best known prevention program against drug abuse among young people. It arose from " a collaboration between police and school administrators in Los Angeles " and is managed by a non-profit organization ( DARE America, Los Angeles). D.A.R.E. is a phased program in which by means of targeted teaching already in primary school by uniformed police officers following objectives should be achieved:

  • Decision-making ability
  • Self-confidence
  • Ability to withstand peer pressure
