Drumanagh

Drumanagh ( Irish: Droim Meánach ) is a 1994 which is protected Irish Promontory Fort It is Haystown in Fingal County north of Dublin on a privately Owned plateau overlooking the Irish Sea. On the peninsula stands a Martello tower.

On the headland of Drumanagh lie the remains of the largest Promontory Forts of Ireland. The complex is 10 acres in size and is protected on three sides by high cliffs. On the west side a system of high walls limits the entire width of the promontory.

Drumanagh has not been excavated. It is believed that it was used in the late Bronze Age and the early Iron Age. Aerial photographs show a number of contours that come from buildings or enclosures. As artifacts of Roman origin have been found on the plateau, there is an extensive literature with speculation that the coming of Great Britain Romans had a base. From an archaeological point of view can be a occupation by Roman troops or set up a trading post so far not been proven. Even in literature, the presence of the Romans in Ireland is unoccupied.
