The Drwęca [' drvɛntsa ] ( German Drewenz ) is a right tributary of the Vistula River, in northern Poland.
The river rises about eight kilometers southwest of Olsztynek ( Hohenstein ) and initially flows in a northwesterly direction to Ostróda ( Osterode ), then in a westerly direction through the Drewenzer See ( Jezioro Drwęckie ), in the Masurian Lake District and finally heads south to south-westerly direction until it finally flows on the southeastern border of Toruń ( Thorn ) in the Vistula. With 253 km length is the Drwęca the 17th - longest in the rivers of Poland. Its catchment area is about 5536 km ².
The 1840-1856 built Uplands channel (Polish Elblaskie Canal ) connects the Drwęca about Miłomłyn ( Liebemühl ) Ostróda ( Osterode ) and Elbląg ( Elbing ) to the Vistula Lagoon.
The 30 kilometer section of the river between Brodnica ( Strasburg ) and Lubicz ( Leibitsch ) shortly before Thorn marked in the history several times a part of the north western border of Poland.
