Dry Bridge

The Most na Suvom or Suvi Most ( Serbian Мост на сувом, Суви мост; German Dry Bridge ) is a suspension bridge in Serbia Zrenjanin. Originally built for crossing the Begej, it bridges today no physical obstacle such as water or a valley.

History

The bridge was built in 1962 according to the plans of the architect Rada Janjatov. You should connect the city center of Zrenjanin with the district Mala America in the north. The northern pylon is a 23 meter high column, while the southern pylon is 16 meters high and A- shaped. Both columns are made of steel and concrete. The hanging cord is made of 103 wires.

Removal of the river

1985, the City Council decided to flood the second bed of the Begej and thus to allow the first to dry out. Thus dams were built on today's river bank. In the former riverbed are still some small lakes, but since then the water flows south of the old town over. Thus, 23 years after the construction of the bridge lost its purpose.

Situation today

In 2008, the city council was planning to remove the bridge, as they have had for 23 years does not make sense and now Rust and generally was in poor condition. This announcement had some complaints about the result, because the bridge has become a symbol of the city Zrenjanin.
