History

The group became famous with the title Genghis Khan, with whom she came in 4th place at the Euro Vision Song Contest (1979). For this event, the group of the German music producer Ralph Siegel was compiled. After the huge success (the title Genghis Khan four weeks was No. 1 on the German Media Control Charts ) was followed by other hits ( Moscow, Rocking Son Of Dschinghis Khan, The Traitor ), from most and English versions were produced. For their exceptional choreography and stage presence, the band was awarded the Bambi Television Award in 1980. Except in Germany were Genghis Khan particularly successful in the Soviet Union, Japan, Australia and Israel where they could prove as so far only German artist first place in the charts.

After the first singles as Hajji Halef Omar, Rome or Pistolero still were able to successfully place in the charts, the group took an image change, and Seal produced shallow ( Lorelei ), sometimes even folk music ( The Dudelmoser ). The success did not materialize. Until 1984 it was briefly once more to an artistic climax with the musical Corrida and the eponymous LP. Two titles from the musical were at Wetten, dass. ? premiered with Frank Elstner. In 1985, the group split then after the last single Mexico.

1986 was characterized by a short time to reunification as " Genghis Khan Family". Henriette Heichel (vocals), Leslie Mandoki (drums ) and Louis Potgieter (keyboards) were only remains of the original formation. With the title We gehör'n together they went again to a national preliminary of the Euro Vision Song Contest. A respectable second place was the only highlight in the short history of the band. After another single was closing for the Dschinghis Khan Family.

He subsequently produced many remixes and medleys of famous Genghis Khan hits, such as the title and the album Huh Hah Dschinghis Khan (1993 ), or the History of Genghis Khan in the year 1999.

Frontman Louis Hendrik Potgieter and dancer died in 1993 of complications from AIDS in Cape Town.

Today Leslie Mandoki has worked as a producer and musician. Edina Pop still has appearances and is represented on their CDs in the radio charts. Steve Bender also recently worked as a music producer still in Munich. On May 7, 2006, he died after a long battle with cancer.

New beginning in the east

In the late 1990s there was a kind of reunion for the first time. Steve Bender, Edina Pop and Leslie Mandoki had a joint appearance on Japanese television. There, the title Moscow and Genghis Khan were presented. Steve Bender was the driving force behind the very successful "Reunion" concert of Dschinghis Khan on 17 December 2005 in Moscow. The founding members Steve Bender, Edina Pop, Henriette Strobel (former Heichel ) and Wolfgang Heichel presented much of the first LP with great applause before about 30,000 spectators.

On 15 July 2006, a re- appearance of the three remaining Genghis Khan members Henriette Strobel, Wolfgang Heichel and Edina Pop, held in conjunction with "The Legacy of Genghis Khan " in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia).

In January 2007, followed by an appearance in Almaty ( Kazakhstan). Other concerts in Russia followed. On 2 March 2007, a concert was held in St. Petersburg ( Russia).

The members of the new group "The Legacy of Genghis Khan " which support the original members Wolfgang Heichel, Henriette Strobel and Edina Pop vocally and dance on the stage, come to a large part of the Munich Abraxas Musical Academy. For changing Cast and Others Claus Kupreit, Katja Vogel, Benjamin Schobel, Tanja Müller, Thomas Graves, Angelika Nimbach.

The new titles were not composed by Ralph Siegel and produced, however, the lyricist of the old hits was (Bernd Meinunger ) won for the project. The CD could not meet the high expectations of fans.
