Duane G. Carey

Duane Gene " Digger" Carey ( born April 30, 1957 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States) is a former American astronaut.
Carey 1981 he received a bachelor's degree in 1982 and a master's degree in aeronautics and aerospace engineering from the University of Minnesota.
1981 Carey Kadett was the Reserve Officer Training Corps, where he completed his training as a pilot from 1983. After deployments in Louisiana, South Korea and Spain, he was in 1991 at Edwards Air Force Base in California, trained as a test pilot and used as such there.
Astronauts activity
In April 1986, Carey was selected as astronaut candidate by NASA. After training as a shuttle pilot, he was employed for tasks within the astronaut office and as a speaker connection ( CAPCOM ) during shuttle missions. Carey retired in October 2004 from NASA and currently teaches school children about his experiences as an astronaut.
STS -109
On 1 March 2002 Carey began as a pilot of the Space Shuttle Columbia for the fourth Maintenance Flight for the Hubble Space Telescope. In five spacewalks ( EVAs ), a new unit of energy, a new camera and new solar cells were installed among others. During the EVAs Carey made video and photographs of the repair work.

Duane Carey and his wife Cheryl have two children.
