An eruption with lava flows to the coast is reported in 1400.

The eruption in May 1861 was very explosive with precipitation of ash up to 300 km away. In addition, lava flows, driven for 22 km to the coast poured. The eruption destroyed two villages, killing 105 people and several herds of cattle. With a volume of 3.5 cubic kilometers of lava eruption of 1861 is the largest in African history.
