Dublin Castle

Dublin Castle (Irish Bhaile Átha Cliath Caisleán ) is a castle in Dublin, Ireland. It is located on Dame Street in the Old Town.

Occupied the site of the castle in the 10th century a fortress. It was conquered in 1170 by the Normans and expanded in the years 1204-1230. The tower Tower Record from 1226 has been preserved until today. The currently existing buildings originate mainly 18th and 19th century.

1907 were stolen from Dublin Castle on the Irish Crown Jewels.

By the year 1922 was at the castle became the seat of the British administration of Ireland. The state rooms The State Apartments from the years 1680-1830 are still used in formal occasions. These include the inauguration of the President of the country as well as the meeting of the European Council, most recently in 2004.

The former Royal Chapel ( Chapel Royal) from the 18th century and restored in 1943 to the Roman Catholic Church under the name Church of the Most Holy Trinity. She now serves as a cultural center.
