Ducati Supermono

The Supermono is a motorcycle of the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati.

The Super Mono debuted in 1993 and was designed exclusively for the Supermono racing use. A certifiable road version was never built. The design came first from the pen of Pierre Terblanches who should be chief designer at Ducati later. Design bonds the Super Mono should appear later in 1998 presented new edition of the Super Sport.

The unusual at the Super Mono, however, is your engine: Since a complete redesign for a not very prestigious racing class, moreover, was not worth in times of financial difficulties we went back to the tried and tested 90 ° V2 with Desmodromic, fuel injection and 4 valves per cylinder, wherein said stationary cylinder is replaced by a angelenktem of the second connecting rod lever with a counterweight. This lever has repaid the typical single cylinder vibrations to a minimum, so out of necessity an unusual engine concept was born. The lack of vertical cylinder as well as the use of a lightweight, self-supporting carbon rear of the center of gravity compared to other motorcycle concepts, which is the driving dynamics conducive sank.

A similar principle for the mass balance is found incidentally now also in the two-cylinder inline engines with BMW motorcycles.
